EXOSHELL is a modular, freestanding support system (grid). It is installed as a “second skin” in front of existing or new building facades to enhance their functionality. The structure is based on a structurally independent support frame that is connected to the building via thermally decoupled joints without significantly altering the building’s structure. The system is divided into three core functional areas—Green, Energy, and Space—which can be flexibly configured with functional modules.

  • In the Green area, integrated planters and retention roofs provide water storage, cool the microclimate, and promote biodiversity.
  • The “Energy” pillar uses photovoltaic modules and smart shading systems to generate electricity locally while simultaneously reducing cooling loads.
  • Through Space modules, the building gains valuable usable space in the form of balconies, sunrooms, outdoor seating areas, or even living modules.
  • The entire system is networked via a sensor grid (smart) that collects environmental data to intelligently control the building.
  • Additional infrastructure modules provide electric vehicle charging stations as well as integrated safety solutions such as fire escape routes and emergency staircases. Thanks to its modular design, the system can be efficiently maintained during operation and flexibly adapted.
